“Work-Life Balance is not the start-up game.”
Look you can build a business that serves you.
But when you’re going through transitions in the company. When you’re scaling the company. There are periods where the work intensity is going to suck. Bottom line.
There are a lot of places where you can have an amazing job, live off less than you earn, invest in reasonably safe arenas (Funds, Real Estate, etc…), and dedicate more hours.
You can buy an existing business and make small incremental improvements and optimize for profit and have loads of hours for other pursuits.
But if you want to scale.
That’s going to take your heart and soul for an extended period of time.
The choice is yours.
But I’ve yet to see a founder going through a transition. 0 to 1. or 600k – 1.1m, or 1m – 5m, or 5m-20m, or 20m -155m that didn’t have an outsized demand on their time.
Choose wisely with eyes wide open.
It is not for the faint of heart.
