Why isn’t AI working for most businesses?
That’s what Kyle Racki asked me the other night.
The reality is that for far too long the knowledge and service economy – lawyers, accountants, healthcare practionners, sales people, marketers – have basically lived by one premise:
Hire good people and hold them accountable to results.
That’s never been the best way. And AI is exposing that.
Because AI only works when you understand how work gets done at the task level. And when you understand it at that level, you can integrate AI for real tangible gains.
The fact is, AI is better at most individual tasks that any of us are. It can have a more intelligent conversation with you about byzantine economic policy than all but a handful of humans. That goes for every subject now.
As of a month ago, it is getting better at doing mulitple tasks with context to create reliable outcomes.
The K-Curve of adoption is real. The 6% that are investing in rewiring workflows (March 12th McKinsey Report looked at 25 factors in driving ROI with AI – Workflow redesign was #1 by a mile) are getting compounding gains. They are re-investing those gains into new workflows improvements.
And that is how the AI:ROI flywheel spins.
That is what we do with our clients in Levership.
