Well, in this case, it is my partner’s best life.
Every quarter, Emily Dugas and I find a way to get away for a quick escape to reset. We’re in the air now on the way to Las Vegas. Warren Rustand had a massive influence on how Em and I learned to craft a family mission statement, a set of values, learn the 5 love languages, communicate about our ambitions and desires, align on how we will show up for our kids and our family, book the key dates, and come back refreshed.
Nothing is more disastrous to a relationship than unstated expectations that go unmet.
Read that again – Unstated expectations that go Unmet.
When do you meet with the partners in your business and in your life to align, articulate what you’re building, talk about the support you’d like, articulate the experiences you’d like enjoy and put a plan together to live those?
This time away is part of a commitment Em and I made to support eachother’s best life.
I saw that Krista Han just returned from her annual family retreat.
Mark Symes and I are getting better at slowing down to this on the portfolio of companies we are partners in. And we know how to support each others best personal life (Mark loves his time in the woods hunting with and without his dog and he spends a good portion of the fall building a calendar. That used to be a bone of contention until we made the commitment to support each other’s best life as business partners and brothers)

It is one of the aspects of Levership that I’m the most proud of. It seeks first to understand the Entrepreneur and their ambitions and the way they want to spend their time.
From there we can give clarity to the business model and the gap.

Back to the trip – I was reading online that Adele’s last concerts “for a long time” were being held in November. Because of our quarterly couples retreats, I was aware of Em’s bucket list. Adele and driving a fast car on the list (we’re far too practical to own one).
Admittedly, I’m quasi-terrified to be in the passenger seat of this beast. And I’ve spent the last 2 months listening to the breadth and depth of Adele’s music library.
I’m looking forward to the weekend, the alignment we’ll achieve, and the smiles we’ll share.
