So 95% of AI integrations fail.
Is that really surprising?
Only 9% of the Fortune 500 remains (from the original list in 1955)
Quitters day is officially January 14th – That’s the day Strava watches an avalanche of fresh starts give up on their new year new me fitness challenge.
Only 9.7% of attempted changes deliver more than the time, quality, and cost they set out to deliver. (Miliken study of 10,000 organizations).
Far from adding any value to the potential of AI, the MIT study just reaffirms what we already know about humanity:
We Suck at Change.
We’re irrational creatures of ritual and routine.
It doesn’t matter that our best interests may be served by change.
If we were any good at it, we’d all have six packs, healthy savings accounts, and the world wouldn’t be on the brink of environmental collapse.
If you read that study and said “Hey look, AI is failing. It’s not working. It’s been exaggerated.”
You took the wrong lesson away.
Evolution favours the most adaptable.
When the speed of change outside an organization surpasses the speed of change inside an organization, it is just a matter of time.
Folks, AI is here to stay. This is the worst it will ever be.
But it is a business problem. It is a change management challenge. It is a mindset shift. It is a rewiring of the habits of work.
The next two years will favour the bold. Those who lean in as fast followers and integrate AI where it makes sense with their people.

Perhaps worse, the MIT claims are likely overstated – https://lnkd.in/gPjq9Rjb
