Say - Measure - Reward.

Say – Measure – Reward.

It is complicated to keep these three aligned.

Most organizations don’t.

and the results are predictable and disastrous.

If you say that improvement rate is important

And you only measure outcomes.

And you only reward results that bring in revenue.

The organization will march to the beat of what you measure.

Often what you need for the future conflicts with what would give you most in the short term.

Strategic Change often fails.

And often that is because we say we want a different future but don’t change the internal measurement and reward systems. And so (unintentionally) we continue to reinforce the old habits and by consequence, we tell the organization what is truly important.

If you’ve changed what’s important. have you also changed the metrics and the rewards to match?
