Purpose – Process – People…
In that order… Many will say people first. They are wrong.
They are right that the most important decision you will ever make is who joins your team. This is particularly true the smaller you are.
But if you do not understand your purpose.
If you do not understand what Problem you Solve for who
You do not know what processes / Capabilities you need to excel at.
And if you do not know what processes you need to be the best in the world at, you do not know what skills to prioritize when you hire.
Character will always win over skills. (Pro Tip: Character and Skills will win over just Character).
It all goes back to aligning the problem you solve for the customer to the processes and then to the people.
It starts with the customer.
Then you can follow all the great advice of putting the people first and enabling them etc…
