“It’s just another government announcement.”
I get the instinct. But the “AI for All” moves Canada off its old identity.
For years the question was whether we could build world-class AI. We answered that with Mila, Vector, Amii.
The new question is whether anyone will use it. 12% of businesses do today. The target is 60%.
The pivot is real: adoption is now national competitiveness, not a research story.
Translation: adoption just became a national competitiveness issue. And the slowest adopters carry the most risk. They will get run over. Not all at once, but they will.
That’s exactly why you can’t wait for Ottawa to operationalize it for you. Build your own AI operating model now, while the funding mechanics are still being figured out.
Don’t get pulled into the jobs debate. 250,000 created, or thousands lost, both miss the real discussion.
Tasks are the discussion.
In an effective AI Strategy, every role gets unbundled into what humans do, what they direct, and what they verify.
Think carefully about that. Do you have a bunch of great people with unconscious competence leading to good results today? Or is your organization enabled by conscious competence at the workflow and task level?
Do you know how the sausage is made in every workflow?
Or do you rely on people to hold it together?
If you redesign at that level, the success of your business (and the workforce transition) is something you lead, not something that happens to you.
Skeptical is fine. Passive isn’t.
