I asked a room full of business owners this morning how many of them use AI.
Every hand went up.
Then I asked how many use it every day.
About half the hands stayed up.
That gap is the whole story of where most businesses actually are with AI right now.
We spent the half day at the The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Moncton | La Chambre de commerce pour le Grand Moncton working through it, and if there’s one thing I want everyone in that room to walk away with, it’s this:
The conceptual error with AI isn’t how you’re using it. It’s what you think it is.
Most people are still treating it like a tool. Something you deploy, roll out, IT ticket it into existence.
It’s not a tool.
It’s a teammate. A co-pilot. Crew in the execution of your workflows.
The best organizations aren’t putting AI in IT. They’re putting it in HR. Because they’ve figured out it behaves a lot more like a hire than a piece of software.
That single reframe changes everything downstream of it. How you onboard it. Who’s accountable for what it produces. Whether you’re managing it, waiting for someone else, or just hoping it works out.
Don’t have to take my word for it either. From the feedback this morning:
“Best session I’ve been to in years. AI as a thought partner, not a tool that will do my work.” — Dan Martin
“I’m a hairdresser and was sceptical on how to be able to use it in my salon. My mind is blown with how many opportunities there are to use these tools.” — Julie McCaie
“It is more than an information session, you will get challenged, and it will make you realize that there is so much more you can do.” — Laure Devanne
Thank you to everyone who spent the morning in the room and asked the hard questions. That’s where the most value comes from in these sessions.
