“What looks like a talent gap is often a focus gap.
The “all-star” is often an average to above-average performer who spends more time working on what is important and less time on distractions. The talent is staying focused.”
James Clear is right.
It comes down to focus, organization, and a forcing function.
It’s why a trainer at a gym works. Not necessarily because of their knowledge. Though that can help.
It is the forcing function of having you show up
And diligently complete a series of exercises.
This is why you almost always benefit from outside facilitation on strategy.
It’s hard to see outside the jar when you’re in it.
It’s even harder if you don’t consciously set time aside to do strategy.
Two days a quarter to ask the big questions and emerge with a 90 day plan ON, IN, and from a Resource standpoint.
1/2 day a month to check in on your commitments.
One hour a week to make sure you manage the actions.
Look around you. In every vertical, a company offering similar services to you is thriving. There is no reason you aren’t.
Those who outperform the market are just more focused, executing the basics with more rigour, and they’re getting the compounding results of that commitment.
