How to score leads so you know who to call first

Lead

How do you decide which leads to call first?

First come, first served?

Whoever seems nicest?

There’s a better way.

Most business owners treat every lead the same. Same effort. Same follow-up speed. Same attention.

But not all leads are created equal.

The person who fills out your contact form at 9am Monday shouldn’t get the same priority as the referral from your best client.

Here’s how to score leads so you know who to call first:

Give each lead points based on these signals:
Urgency signals (3 points each):
They mentioned a specific timeline or deadline.
They’re currently having problems with their existing provider.
They asked about availability this week or month.

Fit signals (2 points each):
They match your ideal client profile (size, industry, location).
They came from a referral source you trust.
They’ve done basic research (mentioned your specific services).

Budget signals (2 points each):
They asked about investment vs. “how much is your cheapest option?”
They mentioned they’ve allocated budget.
Their business size suggests they can afford your services.

10+ points = call today. 6-9 points = call this week. Below 6 = nurture or disqualify.
Right now, you’re probably calling leads in the order they come in.
Which means your team wastes time on people who are “just looking.”

Meanwhile, serious buyers are waiting.

And waiting means they’re talking to your competitors.

You can’t close everyone. But you can make sure your best opportunities get your best effort first.

This lead scoring system? It’s just one piece of Week 2 of Revenue Rhythm.

Revenue Rhythm is a 4-week implementation program that builds your complete sales system from the ground up.

By the end, you’ll have a sales engine that fills your pipeline with qualified leads, moves deals predictably from quote to close, and frees up your time to lead instead of chase.

Revenue Rhythm isn’t a course you watch and forget. It’s a 4-week sprint where you build the system while we guide you through it.
