Friday we wrapped up another fantastic round of AI in the Workplace sessions with the Halifax Chamber of Commerce.
This has been one of many rounds of workshops we’ve been doing with the chamber since 2023.
My grandfather was a roofer who started a roofing company. That’s who I build for.
AI has completely changed the rules. Large enterprises have the budget to experiment, fail, iterate, and figure it out. Most small businesses don’t. And if we’re not careful, that gap compounds fast.
So we get in rooms like this one.
Because you don’t need a massive budget to lead with AI. We are in the middle of the 4th industrial revolution and for the first time you don’t need capital. But you do need clarity.
That means, more than ever before, you need to know where you’re going. What’s getting in the way. And what you intend to do about it.
It is about the right sequence.
The same one I’ve repeated to these 92 leaders (and the other 3100+ leaders in other rooms) and I’ll repeat it again:
Find the constraint. Before you touch any tool, know what’s actually slowing your business down. Not what feels urgent. What’s real.
Break down the workflows and their processes. You can’t improve what you haven’t mapped. The leaders who got the most out of these sessions were the ones willing to look honestly at how work actually gets done in their business.
Then amplify with AI.
That sequence matters.
It’s easy to skip straight to the third step. It never works when you do.
The Halifax Chamber made all of this easy. Through their team and their incredible member base.
In April of 2023, Halifax Chamber’s VP of Marketing, Becky Davison, MBA, PMP recognized the need to get this message in front of small businesses. She challenged us to make this better and easier for her members. Our work is better because of that challenge!

Small businesses are the backbone of this economy. They deserve to lead with AI, not scramble to catch up.
