Meanwhile, the boring investor who indexed and touched nothing decades ago owns your neighborhood. Who’s winning?”
I’d add that this is central to building the right network – Both the strong connections and the weak ties.
And it is build in decades not months.
Dorie Clark, in their excellent book The Looooooooooooong Game, has one rule when it comes to building relationships:
Absolutely No asking for a year.
Give what you can
Help where you can
Add Value where it makes sense
and Learn.
I like how Shane ended his tiny thought:
“The patient inherit everything the impatient leave behind.”
It took me a long time to learn this. And I have to remind myself every day that we’re building in decades. I’m building a rich life inspired by those who are also in the arena creating value, getting knocked down, and finding a way back up.
Increasingly, the network I give to and draw inspiration from, is more intentional than ever.
And that network usually means more of the right opportunities.
