After analyzing 108,286,060 activities, January 17th was officially pronounced Quitter’s Day.

There are a series of studies that suggest motivation does not carry you much further than 14 days.

We live in a world of abundance. Our brain has not evolved to contend with too much sugar, glutton, and dopamine – It is an evolutionary mismatch for our current conditions. We have too much convenience at our fingertips – transportation, tethered to our smartphones, and most have full pantries where all we need to do is rip open some plastic to ease real or perceived hunger.

That has not made our lives better.

The mental torment can be paralyzing.

What challenge are you chasing?

Why not make it Epic – Make it memorable. There will always be a reason not to.

Why am I doing this? I’m an older father. I want to be around to see my two daughters grow, explore, and engage in this incredible world.

VO2Max is the single best indicator of healthspan.

Training for marathons with their mostly easy runs, some hard ones, and some long ones provides the perfect recipe to increase VO2Max.

Oh, and that sub-3:10 time would put in the top 2% of all runners in my agree group. And when I take on a challenge, that’s where I like to land.
