“Creating tomorrow by repeating yesterday is not a useful way forward.”
Strategy is about intentionally changing some part of your organization.
That means getting clear on what you’re building in the future. The better you can describe the problem you solve for whom – The smaller the audience, the better – the clearer a picture you paint of the future state.
Articulating an honest appraisal of the gap between where you are and where you want to be. What’s going on in the world? What’s going on in your market? What’s going on with capabilities others might have that you’d like to have?
What is the one Lever?
What is the number one blocker that you must unlock in order to be the company of the future?
If you don’t know the answer to that question, STOP and sort it out.
Most organizations die of indigestion, not starvation. Too many improvements started without finishing (and benefiting from the value of) their current improvements.
Most of leadership (and life) is about focus. And with that focus, you can get at the work (with peace of mind). Embrace JOMO (The Joy of Missing Out) and expend your energy on the ONE thing that will make everything else better!
Oh and that quote above is from the brilliant Seth Godin and his treatise on Strategy.
Happy Sunday.
I wish you clarity, focus, and productive work sprints this week!
