Most business owners think they’re behind on AI because they’re not technical enough.
That’s the wrong read.
The people getting real value out of this right now have sharp judgment. They know which workflow is actually holding them back. They can frame a decent question, point AI at the right problem, and catch it when it gets things wrong.
Those are leadership skills. You already have those.
Three skills matter most:
1. Curiosity, because if you’re too attached to the skills you already have, someone with half your experience and a good AI setup will pass you.
2. Orchestration, because grinding through problems barely worked before and it really doesn’t work now.
3. And judgment. That’s the one that matters most. AI doesn’t tell you which problem to solve. You do.
What I keep watching is that people with real domain expertise get sharper with this.
The people who actually know their field can push AI harder and catch it when it’s off.
The people who don’t have that foundation just get faster at producing stuff that sounds right but isn’t.
The executives I see pulling ahead aren’t learning to code. They’re making better decisions about where to point serious capability.
That was always the job.
